ADHD in adults — and especially in women — is almost always misunderstood. By the time most people reach my office, they've spent years being told they just need to try harder. They've tried harder. It hasn't worked. What they actually need is a therapist who understands that ADHD is a nervous system difference, not a character flaw.
The hyperactive kid bouncing off the walls is one version of ADHD. Many adults with ADHD don't look like that. They look like someone who is smart, capable, and chronically overwhelmed. Who can hyperfocus for hours on something interesting and can't start a simple task they've been dreading for weeks. Who feels emotions more intensely than other people and can't always explain why.
Research consistently shows that emotional dysregulation is a core component of ADHD — not a side effect. Executive dysfunction affects not just planning and organization, but the ability to regulate mood, manage transitions, and tolerate frustration. These symptoms are frequently attributed to anxiety, depression, or personality — and the ADHD underneath goes unidentified for years.
I work from a neurodiversity-affirming framework, which means we start from the premise that your brain works differently — not deficiently. The goal is never to make you more neurotypical. It's to build a life that actually fits how you think.
In practice, that means we work on understanding your specific profile — what helps your nervous system, what derails it, where your strengths are and where you genuinely need support. We use approaches drawn from CBT adapted for ADHD, executive function strategies, and nervous system regulation work. We also address the emotional layer — the shame, the self-doubt, the internalized belief that you should be able to just figure this out — because that layer is often what's keeping everything else stuck.
I hold the ADHD-CCSP credential and have worked with ADHD across the lifespan for over 20 years. I am also neurodivergent myself, which means this isn't abstract for me.
